Template line cards got a major slim-down — and you can now mark lines Required or Optional

Project template line cards used to be chunky, taking up half the screen per line. Unlinked lines now render as a clean numbered list (click any field to edit inline), and promoted-to-service lines became roughly half their previous height while keeping the full Edit Details expansion. Plus a new Required / Optional toggle on every line so you can flag the must-haves vs the add-ons.

Template line cards got a major slim-down

If you've built out a Project Template lately, you've probably noticed the page scrolls forever. Each line was a chunky card with labels, input boxes, a pricing grid, and an Edit Details button — all stacked. A 10-line template took up most of your screen height.

That's now cleaned up. Two different looks based on whether a line is a draft or a real catalog service.

Unlinked (draft) lines — flat numbered list

Lines that haven't been promoted to a real catalog service now render as a clean numbered list, like the What BidCraft typically includes sample you can peek at the top of the template page. Each line is:

  1. A bold title (click to edit)
  2. A 1-2 sentence scope blurb (click to edit — auto-resizes as you type)
  3. A small uppercase pricing-mode tag (Crew days / Per sqft / Per linear ft / Pass-through — click to change)
  4. A Required / Optional toggle (new — see below)

Hover over the row and the action cluster appears on the right: move up, move down, delete, and (when the line has enough info to become a service) a Promote link.

No more chunky input boxes sitting empty. Click any field to make it editable. Click somewhere else to save.

Linked (promoted) lines — half the height, still expandable

Once you promote a line to a real service in your catalog, it becomes a raised card with the sage-green tint you already know. But it's now about half the height it used to be. The card now uses the same click-to-edit body as the unlinked lines, with one tag row showing your pricing mode + base price + Required toggle + Promoted / Edited pills.

The Edit Details button still expands underneath, with everything you had before — materials section, tasks section, and the "Open full service editor →" link. So nothing's removed; it's just collapsed by default.

New: Required / Optional toggle

Every template line now has a small tag pill — ✓ Required (sage green) or Optional (muted gray). New lines default to Required.

Use it to flag which lines are essential to the template (always show up on proposals built from this template) versus which are optional add-ons (only show up when the project actually needs them).

The toggle is just persisting today. The proposal generator doesn't yet read it — that wiring comes next. For now, treat it as a planning aid: a single tap to flag your must-haves vs nice-to-haves on each template, so when the generator wakes up to it, your templates are already labeled correctly.

Why this matters

Project templates are meant to be a glanceable picture of how you build a project type — not a stack of forms. A contractor who's authored 6 templates with 8-10 lines each shouldn't have to scroll through 60+ chunky cards to scan their work. The new layout makes a template feel like a list you can actually read in one screen.
