Materials list now tells you when a service couldn't be matched to a real product
If you've ever generated a proposal where a service was set up with materials — but the materials list came back empty for that line — you know how confusing that was. The materials existed in the service. They just silently vanished on their way to the proposal. No banner, no log, no clue.
That's done. Two changes:
A clear amber banner at the top of the materials list
When BidCraft tries to build materials for a service but can't find real products to match the categories (silicone caulk and tile leveling clips are common examples — Schluter and Laticrete don't carry them), you'll see this:
⚠ 1 service has materials defined, but none could be resolved for this project.
This usually means the catalog can't find a product for the categories you listed. Pick favorite products for these categories in your library, or add the missing materials manually below.
Show which materials are missing ▾
Click the expand and you'll see exactly which service and which categories couldn't be matched. Tag a product in your library as the favorite for that category, regenerate materials, and the banner clears itself.
Placeholder rows with a typical price
Instead of the row just disappearing, the materials list now shows a placeholder row tagged ✨ awaiting pick with a reasonable typical price (low to mid range from real-world tile work). The proposal total stays close to right while you sort out the actual product — no more wondering why your tile install line shows $0 in materials cost.
Why this matters
A lot of services in your catalog have materials that gradually become out of date — a category was correct when you saved it, but the contractor moved, switched suppliers, or the catalog hasn't been imported yet for that brand. Before today, BidCraft would silently drop those materials and you'd notice the missing cost weeks later when reconciling receipts. Now the heads-up shows up at the moment the proposal builds, where you can do something about it on the spot.
The fix is usually one or two clicks: open your materials library, find a product that fits the category, tag it as favorite for that role. Every future proposal that uses that service will pick it up automatically.
