Materials now live with each service
For a while, BidCraft had a separate "Material Recipes" section where you'd build installation recipes and then link them to services. It was a clever idea on paper. In practice, almost nobody used the recipes — they just wanted to know "when I install a curbed shower, what materials do I need?" — and the two-step setup (build the recipe, then link it to the service) was extra work.
So we collapsed it. Services now own their materials directly.
What changed
Open any service from /my-services. You'll see a Materials section right on the detail page. That's the canonical list of materials that get pulled into the proposal whenever this service is used.
Each material row has:
- A role — what the material is for (thinset for large-format tile, waterproofing membrane, grout)
- A quantity formula — how much you need based on the project's dimensions (e.g., 1 bag per 80 sqft of wall)
- A product — the specific SKU from your library or the master catalog
- An optional note — color requirements, finish callouts, anything else
When you generate a proposal, the formulas evaluate against the actual project dimensions and the picks get pulled forward automatically.
Favorite products per role
There's a new "favorite for role" concept on your materials library. Tag a product in your library as your favorite for thinset_modified_large_format, and Biddy will use that product on every future proposal that needs a modified thinset for large tile. No more re-picking the same product 50 times.
Tag favorites by opening any product in /my-products and using the role chip editor in the expanded edit panel.
AI-generated baseline + verify
When you create a new service, you can hit Generate with AI to get a smart baseline of materials for that kind of work. The AI fills in the typical materials with reasonable formulas — and tags each pick as "AI suggestion: verify or swap." You confirm the picks that look right, swap the ones that don't.
A "Verify all" button lets you accept everything in one tap if the AI nailed it.
What happened to my old recipes
We migrated your data automatically. Every service that was linked to a recipe now has those materials embedded directly. The old Material Recipes section is gone from the navigation. Nothing was lost — you just have one fewer place to look.
[!tip] If you've got materials that are genuinely the same across many services (e.g., the same setting tape for every Schluter system), tagging it as a "favorite for role" is faster than re-adding it to every service one at a time.
