One concept instead of two — template lines are services now
For a while there was a quiet tension in the catalog: a Project Template had lines, and your catalog had services, and the way they related to each other was internal plumbing that no one wanted to think about. The relationship still exists under the hood, but it's no longer something you manage. Template lines and services are the same thing now.
What changes for you. Edit a line in a Project Template — adjust its title, rewrite the blurb, change the pricing — and an Edited pill appears on it. That pill is your at-a-glance signal: this line is your authored work, not a platform default. The first time you save the edit, a service gets created in your catalog automatically. Or, if your edit matches an existing service closely enough, it links to that one instead. No duplicate management, no "wait, do I edit this in the template or in the catalog?" There's one concept. Edit it wherever you happen to be.
The catalog grows from real work. When you save services off a real generated proposal using the Save these line items as services panel, those services now also populate the matching project category's template — when no template exists yet. Your catalog and your templates grow together as a byproduct of the proposals you're already shipping.
A cleaner category list. We also tightened the list of project categories. Added LVP flooring, fireplace surround, outdoor / patio tile, and a Custom project type for one-off work. Several specialized variants (half-bath, vanity-replacement, bath-refresh, mudroom, bath-expansion) folded into broader categories — the ones you actually pick from on a real job.
Build Recipes moved into the basement. Build Recipes are no longer in the catalog navigation. Services own their materials directly now, and BidCraft tracks your favorite products tied to material roles automatically — so most contractors will never need to maintain recipes. They're still alive at /build-recipes for power users who run the same install doctrine across many services.
Two new dashboard nudges. "Build your {Category} template" fires when you've started projects in a category but haven't built a template for it yet. "Lock in your {Category} template" fires once you've signed proposals in that category so you can commit the shape you actually sell.
