Reacting to messages, editing, and starting threads
React to a message
On a computer, hover over a message and a row of quick reactions appears beside it β π β€οΈ π π π β π₯ π. Tap one and you're done.
On a phone there's no hover, so tap the + next to the message instead. The same eight reactions are right there in the popover, plus a box where you can type any other emoji you want.
Your reaction shows up as a small pill under the message with a running count. Tap that pill again to take it back. Everyone in the channel sees reactions appear live β no refresh needed.
Fix a message you already sent
Typed the wrong number? Pasted a dead link? You can edit your own messages at any time β there's no time limit.
Open the β― menu on your message and choose Edit. The message turns into a text box: make your change, then press Enter (or tap Save). Escape cancels.
An edited message gets marked (edited) next to the timestamp, so nobody can quietly rewrite what they said after the fact. You can only edit your own messages β nobody can edit yours, not even an admin. Admins can remove a message that breaks the rules, but they can't put words in your mouth.
Reply in a thread
Side conversations belong in a thread, not the main channel. Click Reply in thread under any message. A panel slides in showing the original message and all the replies so far. Type your reply at the bottom and send.
If a thread is already going, you'll see a "N replies" link instead β click that to jump straight in.
The main channel only shows the reply count on the original message, so a long back-and-forth doesn't bury everything else.
Hearing about it when someone answers you
When somebody replies to one of your posts, or reacts to it, two things happen:
- The bell in the corner lights up, and its Activity tab lists who did what. Tap the row and the post opens with its thread already up. Only your own posts count β replies and reactions on other people's messages stay out of your bell.
- If you've turned on Community replies, reactions & DMs under My Profile β Notifications (click your name at the bottom of the sidebar), your phone gets a push too. There's a second toggle, Every new community post, for anyone who wants a buzz on every new channel post. Both are off until you switch them on.
Tips
- Reactions, edits, and mentions all work inside threads too β a reply is a message like any other.
- Editing changes who's tagged, too. Add someone's name to a message and they get tagged; take it out and they stop being tagged.
- Thread replies don't trigger the main-channel unread badge β only new channel messages do.
